what does having confidence mean?
Do you know what having “confidence” really means? You might be shocked at where having confidence actually comes from.
Most people believe that confidence is all about “faking it ‘til you make it” and that only certain extroverts are born with the ability to be confident and have their whole life together. This is false!
Confidence is all about TRUST - trusting yourself to do something, no matter the outcome. It is about having the courage to take one step forward into action. Whether you know what’s going to happen after you step forward or not, the main focus is that you are trusting yourself to take that step. It’s not about faking it and being 100% certain what’s about to happen. It’s about the courage. The courage to move forward.
When I was younger, I had the belief that confidence was the key to being “successful” - to having more money, being more popular, to being liked.
I would look at other people who looked like they were winning in life (just in general, they seemed like happier people) and think, “Wow, they’re so confident. That’s what I need.”
Wrong! “Confidence” is not a tool.
Having more confidence in yourself is a BYPRODUCT of taking action.
Take a look at some of the goals you have for yourself in life right now. Now imagine yourself on your path and the gap between where you are now and where you want to be. The only thing creating that gap is action, or the lack of action.
What are you doing currently to get closer to your goals? Are you consistently taking action? Are you consistently taking the BABY steps that you need to take to move forward? If not, don’t expect any change to occur. If you want to stay exactly where you are, just don’t move. But if you want to move forward and get closer to your dreams, let’s get to work!
And remember, it doesn’t have to be fast. Take it SLOW. Take everything slow. One small action a day, because those small daily actions add up to bigger actions and bigger wins. It’s all about being consistent and having the patience to continue and persevere. It’s simple, but it works, as long as you put in the work.
Your goals matter. Your dreams matter. Let’s get it!
